Many restaurant owners, managers and chef's do not realize that suppliers will
pay you to print their name & logo in your menu.
Foodservice & hospitality service providers, such as credit card companies, will pay for all or a good part, of
your menu and menu cover costs.
- If you accept the American Express card, they often will provide you with nice quality guest
check presenters, free.
- If you print their logo on your menu, Diners Card may pay for all or part of your menu cost. This may
include the menu covers. Be sure to check with your Diner's rep. before ordering your menus and menu
covers. They have some qualification restrictions and strict guidelines for how their logo should be displayed.
One of their restrictions is that you must be a new Diner's Card merchant. If you already accept Diner's Card
you are out of luck. On the other hand we have seen Diner's pick up our client's menu cover expenses of
$1,000 and more.
Food and beverage manufactuers are not usually as generous, but it all adds up.
- Food and beverage manufacturers of everything from coffee to canola oil to soft drinks may pay, or give
you free product, towards your total menu cost if you print their logo in your menu.
- Do not forget to check with your liquor suppliers. Some will print free wine lists, or pay part of the menu
cost if your wine list is part of the menu. From time to time beer and liquor manufactuer's will offer free table
tents for their promotions.
Then you might consider the local businesses in your area.
- Your local distributers may offer an incentive to advertise in your menu. If they do not have such a
program, suggest it to them.
- Often local businesses will buy advertising in your menu. This is another way to offset your menu costs,
if it is appropiate to your restaurant.
- You might also consider asking local businesses to buy match books or perhaps place mats, with their
name/logo on one side, and your restaurant's on the other. You save the expense of something many
customers expect, and the
local business gets inexpensive exposure. A win win deal for everyone.
Many programs like this come and go all the time. Often your supplier's sales person will not volunteer this
information, or may not even know about it. Ask your suppliers to check for you, before you order your menus.
The manufacturers often have specific requirements of how their name/products should be presented.
When printing food and beverage brands in your menu, be sure you want to use that brand at least until you
print new menus.
